Is your photocopier set to ‘SCAM MODE’?

‘Scam mode’ is when your copier supplier is able to charge your organisation for copies unfairly for example: you take a colour copy and the equipment records each of the 4 colours (developments not copies).

Or you take a black and white (mono) copy, your copier/printer charges you through the colour meters. In other words, your copier has been set to default to colour.

Take our simple tests and check for yourself:

THE ‘SCAM COPIER MODE’ TEST 1

Make a note of both the colour and Mono meter readings on the machine,

Take a piece of paper with text in black and at least one line of text in another colour, place the sheet on the copier in the landscape position and select one copy or from your PC print one single page document with black text and at least one line of colour text.

Check the meter readings, if both the Mono and Colour meters have moved more than 1 click, you are most likely being scammed

If the colour meter has moved more than Two clicks, you are most likely being scammed.

THE ‘SCAM COPIER MODE’ TEST 2

Make a note of both the colour and Mono meter readings on the machine,

Place a sheet of paper in the landscape position on the copier with only Black text on the page or on your PC select print on a page with just black text.

Select and print just one copy

Check the meter readings, if the Mono meter moves just One click you are fine,

If the Colour meter records a click or the Mono meter records more than One click, you are most likely being scammed

NOTE !! Your machine can easily be set to colour default by your IT people, therefore, it is essential that you do this test on all of your copiers and printers once a month. Call it your ‘Copier Monthly MOT ’.
